About Brathay Trust
Brathay Trust is a charity with the mission to improve the life chances of children and young people. We do this by inspiring them to raise their aspirations and engage positively in their communities. We work with some of the most vulnerable and ‘hard-to-reach’ young people, helping them to develop the confidence, motivation and skills they need to unlock their potential and make positive changes in their lives.
Their experience of our integrated community and residential programmes help them to re-engage with education, have a voice in their community, become peer mentors and young leaders, and for some, move away from criminal activity and engage in positive behaviour. Our programmes benefit from continuous research and evaluation. They are delivered via community projects in Yorkshire, North West England and Cumbria and are supported by our delivery centres in Bradford, Wigan and Ambleside.
Our Lake District residential centre at Brathay Hall, in Ambleside, together with the facilities at Low Bank Ground, in Coniston, and Hinning House in the Duddon Valley, deliver the residential elements of our programmes. We have a professional development strand of trading activity, in which we deliver leadership courses for a range of employers, many of whom also support our work with young people.
